Kevin Durant becomes 8th NBA Player to reach 30,000 points

Phoenix Suns forward Kevin
Durant became the eighth player in NBA history to surpass 30,000
career points. Durant achieved this milestone during a home game
against the Memphis Grizzlies today, February 11, 2025, sinking two
free throws late in the third quarter. He entered the game needing
26 points to reach the landmark and finished with 34 points,
bringing his career total to 30,008 points.
Durant reached 30,000 points in
1,101 games, tying Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the third-fastest player
to achieve this feat. Only Wilt Chamberlain (941 games) and Michael
Jordan (960 games) accomplished it more quickly. Reflecting on this
achievement, Durant expressed gratitude, stating, “It’s a true
honor to join such an elite group of players. I’ve always focused
on playing the game the right way, and reaching this milestone is a
testament to that.”
Despite Durant’s historic night,
the Suns fell to the Grizzlies with a final score of 119-112.
Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, who led his team with 26 points, honored
Durant by presenting him with the game ball after the contest,
signifying respect for his accomplishment. Durant’s next target on
the all-time scoring list is Wilt Chamberlain, who sits in seventh
place with 31,419 points.
