Chris Paul Surpasses Jason Kidd, Climbs to Second on All-Time Assists List
Chris Paul etched his name
further into NBA history on Sunday, surpassing Jason Kidd for
second place on the all-time assists leaderboard during the San
Antonio Spurs’ game against the New Orleans Pelicans. The historic
assist came on a sideline out of bounds play for a Victor
Wembanyama three-pointer, showcasing the connection between the
veteran point guard and the Spurs’ emerging superstar.
Paul finished the game with 10
assists to surpass Kidd’s 12,091 career dimes, bringing his total
to 12,092. He now trails only John Stockton, whose record of 15,806
remains untouchable as of the moment.

Yeah, it is wild,” Paul said of
the milestone after Friday’s loss to Sacramento. “I mean, five
years ago I had seen that number and it’s like, ‘Man, you going to
play long enough to do that?’ Seriously.
“I mean, I remember being a
rookie, I said that before, looking up in Utah, seeing John
Stockton, all-time steals and assist leader. So, yeah, it is kind
of crazy. I mean, I’m grateful for the opportunity to still
continue to play.”
Paul, a 20-year NBA veteran, has
been pivotal in mentoring the Spurs’ youthful roster as they
continue to benefit from his steady leadership as he further
cements his legacy being one of the game’s greatest
playmakers.
