Cavaliers sign Javonte Green after buyout with Pelicans

The Cleveland Cavaliers have
signed guard/forward Javonte Green after a buyout with the New
Orleans Pelicans, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Green is set to enhance the
Cavaliers’ roster who are currently tied with the best record in
the NBA with the OKC Thunder following the all-star
break.
This move will mark Green’s
fourth NBA team in his six-year career.
Green, 31, has played 50 games
this season, averaging 5.8 points and 3.6 rebounds over 21.8
minutes per game. In his final appearance with the Pelicans, he
contributed nine points, seven rebounds, and five steals in 34
minutes, stepping in for the resting Zion
Williamson.
ANALYSIS: Despite a shooting
percentage of 44.6% this season, slightly below his career average
of 51.9%, Green’s defensive prowess and versatility are expected to
be valuable assets for the Cavaliers. Green can also be a viable
option against the top wings in the East, with Jayson Tatum and
Jaylen Brown from the Celtics and Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby from
the Knicks looming in the playoffs.
The Cavaliers, who are currently
leading the Eastern Conference, aim to strengthen their lineup as
they approach the postseason. Green’s addition provides depth and
experience, bolstering the team’s defensive
capabilities.
