Golden State Warriors to Retire Andre Iguodala’s No. 9 Jersey
The Golden State Warriors have
announced plans to retire Andre Iguodala’s No. 9 jersey, according
to NBA reporter Chris Haynes. Honoring his significant
contributions to the franchise’s success, the ceremony is scheduled
for February 23, 2025, during a home game against the Dallas
Mavericks at Chase Center in San Francisco.
Iguodala, who retired in October
2023 after a distinguished 19-year NBA career, was instrumental in
the Warriors’ championship runs. He played a pivotal role in
securing four NBA titles for the team (2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022)
and was named the NBA Finals MVP in 2015.
Reflecting on his time with the
Warriors, Iguodala emphasized the collective effort that led to
their success, highlighting the contributions of teammates Stephen
Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. He remarked, “Without
Stephen Curry, nobody’s jersey is going into the
rafters.”
Warriors co-executive chairman
Joe Lacob praised Iguodala as one of the smartest and most
successful players in the team’s history. He stated, “Andre
Iguodala was a huge part of four NBA championship teams with the
Warriors and will forever be remembered for his many contributions
to our franchise, both on and off the court.”
Over his career, Iguodala also
played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, and Miami Heat,
earning an All-Star selection and two NBA All-Defensive team
honors. His jersey retirement will mark the seventh in Warriors’
history, placing him among the franchise’s all-time
greats.
This upcoming ceremony will not
only celebrate Iguodala’s individual achievements but also the era
of Warriors basketball that he helped define.
