The Chicago Bulls have announced
plans to retire Derrick Rose’s iconic No. 1 jersey during the
2025-26 NBA season, honoring the youngest MVP in league history and
a native son of Chicago.

Rose, selected first overall by
the Bulls in the 2008 NBA Draft, made an immediate impact by
earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2009. His dynamic playmaking
and leadership propelled the Bulls to multiple playoff appearances,
culminating in his MVP award in 2011 at the age of 22—the youngest
player ever to receive the honor.

Despite a career marred by
injuries, Rose’s resilience and dedication left an indelible mark
on the franchise and the city. Reflecting on the honor, Rose
expressed deep emotion, stating, “I never thought this day would
come. To be up there with the greatest players in Bulls history is
a dream come true.”

Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf
praised Rose’s contributions, noting, “Derrick’s impact on the
Bulls and the city of Chicago is immeasurable. His determination
and passion for the game embody the spirit of our
franchise.”

The retirement ceremony will see
Rose’s jersey join those of Bulls legends Michael Jordan (23),
Scottie Pippen (33), Jerry Sloan (4), and Bob Love (10) in the
United Center rafters. The specific date for the ceremony will be
announced at a later time.

Rose’s journey from Chicago’s
South Side to NBA stardom has been a source of inspiration for
many. His jersey retirement serves as a testament to his enduring
legacy and the profound impact he has had on the Bulls organization
and the broader basketball community.
