Grizzlies trade away Marcus Smart, Jake LaRavia to Wizards, Kings

In two separate moves, the
Memphis Grizzlies have traded guard Marcus Smart and forward Jake
LaRavia to the Washington Wizards and the Sacramento Kings
respectively, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. In the deal, the
Grizzlies also sent a 2025 first-round pick to the Wizards and
received two second-round picks in return.
Trade Details:
- Memphis
Grizzlies Receive: - Marvin Bagley III
- Johnny Davis
- Two second-round picks
- Washington
Wizards Receive: - Marcus Smart
- 2025 first-round pick
- Memphis
Grizzlies Receive: - TBD
- Sacramento
Kings Receive: - Jake LaRavia
ANALYSIS: Marcus Smart, 31, has
been a key defensive presence for the Grizzlies and his entire
career, averaging 10.6 points, 4.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game
this season. His leadership and tenacity are expected to bolster
the young Wizards.
Marvin Bagley III, a versatile
forward, and Johnny Davis, a promising young guard, will add depth
to the Grizzlies’ roster as they continue their pursuit of a
championship.
Jake LaRavia, 23, has shown
potential as a versatile forward, averaging 6.2 points and 3.1
rebounds per game this season.
However, these two separate
moves can be likely seen as a move for the Grizzlies to consolidate
their small forward rotation. They struck gold with Jaylen Wells in
the 2nd round this year, who is having an excellent rookie season.
They still have Vince Williams Jr. coming back, who was also good
last year. Then there’s GG Jackson, a super scorer that fits well
with the starters. There was a need to make a move, hence these two
trades.
