The New Orleans Pelicans have
traded forward Brandon Ingram to the Toronto Raptors, according to
NBA reporter Chris Haynes. In return, the Pelicans will receive
forwards Bruce Brown Jr. and Kelly Olynyk, along with a first-round
and a second-round draft pick. 

After months of speculation with
Ingram not signing an extension with the team, the Pelicans finally
moved Ingram.

ANALYSIS: Brandon Ingram, 27,
has been sidelined since December due to an ankle injury, limiting
him to 18 games this season. Despite his absence, he has averaged
22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game. Ingram is in
the final year of a five-year, $158.3 million contract and is set
to become an unrestricted free agent in June. He will now have to
decide whether or not to sign his extension with the Raptors, sign
a new contract with the team, or what the Raptors would offer to
him.

Bruce Brown Jr. has averaged 8.4
points per game with the Raptors this season, while Kelly Olynyk
has contributed 7.1 points and 3.7 rebounds over 24
games. 

This trade should bring the
Raptors’ to possibly contend for a play-in spot next season
considering how the roster is built currently. On the other hand,
the Pelicans acquire valuable assets that they can use or move to
support their future endeavors.
